Callooh! Callay!

Are you ready for Fall?

Photo of Thanksgiving feast by Cheryl.Fall is upon us! And with it comes cool weather, umber leaves, and an excuse to stay inside (almost my favorite activity). Here are my picks for the autumn season.

Comfort Food

What's better than fall food? One-Dish Vegan offers recipes for plant-based, allergy-friendly comfort food like White Pizza and Louisiana Red Beans and Rice. Plus, "one-dish" meals mean less clean-up and more time for your favorite fall activities.

Needlecraft

Fall is the perfect time to pull that box of knitting needles or crochet hooks out of the closet (or pick some up for the first time) and get crafting! French Girl Knits: Accessories is chockful of beautiful patterns to cozy up with, like chic hats, cabled stockings and adorable slippers. And if this book doesn't last you through the fall, see also Kristeen Griffin-Grimes' other book, French Girl Knits, for patterns to get you ready for winter, spring and summer.

If crochet hooks are more your style, check out the new Amigurumi trend, the Japanese art of crocheting delightfully tiny creatures. Ami Ami Dogs is one such book with patterns for creating super cute pups.

Curl Up and Read

If you're looking for a delicious new book to get you through the cold months, Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier is sure to please. A little bit of romance mixed with a little bit of mystery and intrigue leads to an unputdownable page-turner that will quickly become a favorite.

And to end with the perfect autumn-themed quote from another favorite book: “October, baptize me with leaves! Swaddle me in corduroy and nurse me with split pea soup. October, tuck tiny candy bars in my pockets and carve my smile into a thousand pumpkins.” -Rainbow Rowell, Attachments

May your fall season be full of warmth and soup and tiny candy bars.
